Before our third little bundle arrived, we wanted to get away for a babymoon but within a reasonable distance drive on the east coast. My husband is a Hilton Diamond member so we wanted to try and find a resort we could use points at and we found this quaint little beach resort in a little town called Madison, CT and we stayed at the Madison Beach Hotel.
The drive was easy, it took about 2.5 hours and with the kids as comfortable as possible they did a great job enjoying the ride. I think the key is to have super comfy car seats, Adeline loves her Maxi-Cosi Magellan Max car seat which is roomy and super safe which I love. It had special adjustable side impact protection plus super cushy plush padding which makes for a great seat.
The hotel was beautiful and on the water. The beach was grainy sand and rocks which was pretty awesome! You get the feeling you’re in Maine without having to do the drive. Our room had a beautiful water view and balcony, although some of the slats were broken on our balcony (Always check!) the hotel fixed it right away. The food at the restaurant was delicious! After the kids went to bed, hubby and I sat on the balcony and ordered room service and watched the moonlight over the water. A great idea for when you can’t leave the kids sleeping inside!
Lavender Pond Farm- This is the most adorable lavender farm that is only 15 minutes from the hotel. We visited and had the best time. There is a lavender painted electric train that takes you through the fields and around the grounds which are out of a storybook. It's absolutely picture perfect and the farm brews their own lavender lemonade which is absolutely amazing. The staff is very friendly and we can't wait to go back.
Chamard Vineyards - This vineyard is about 10 minutes from the hotel and is another charming destination. It has rolling hills with vineyards all surrounding a quaint little lake, sunflowers, twinkling lights and more. The food is delicious and the staff is as sweet as the Riesling. We had the best time walking the grounds, laughing, and indulging in their amazing French fries. If you take the ride to visit, this destination is a must see.
All in all we feel we found a pretty amazing gem of a destination for families with small kids. Between the beautiful beaches and close destinations to visit, Madison, CT makes a great East coast getaway. A long weekend or 3-4 night stay is what we need to re-charge.
