Finding The Right Car Seat — Chicco’s NextFit iX Zip
In honor of Baby Safety Month and National Child Passenger Safety Week (9/23-9/29), I will be highlighting the convenience, comfort and safety features of the Chicco NextFit iX Zip Car Seat.
This car seat is excellent for forward-facing or rear-facing children. Knowing the proper time to turn your child car seat around from rear- to forward-facing can be confusing, but being aware of safety recommendations helps clear that up. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently updated their recommendations around how long children should be kept rear-facing in the car – for as long as possible, until they have reached the rear-facing height and/or weight limits of their car seat. For Chicco families, that means maxing out the height and weight limits of the NextFit car seat – 40 pounds or 49 inches.
In this year’s their 2018 car seat safety study, Chicco explored what would prompt parents to put children in the forward-facing position prematurely and who their source of safety information is. The good news is that it’s pediatricians who parents are going to as the main source for information on a child’s health and well-being, particularly car seat safety advice. More than seven-in-10 (71 percent) parents say they talk to their pediatrician about when it’s right to turn their child’s car seat around. However, when it comes to turning children forward-facing prematurely, parents are projecting their child’s perceived level of comfort, thinking their child’s legs look cramped (40 percent) or that they simply look uncomfortable rear-facing (32 percent).
My husband drives a CLA250 which has a tiny backseat so it’s hard for us to find a comfortable car seat to put in his car that doesn’t compromise safety. Recently, we have been gifted the perfect car seat from Chicco, NextFit fits perfectly in his car with plenty of leg room for Tripp. It is designed to comfortably accommodate growing children from 5 to 65 lbs. and can be safely used rear-facing from 5 to 40 lbs.
Chicco’s car seat line is designed to help parents keep their children as safe as possible on the road at every stage. To learn more about the right Chicco car seat for you, visit https://www.chiccousa.com/choosing-a-car-seat.
